Mr Grimson will focus on supporting public sector clients to improve how they operate, use technology and data to better deliver positive outcomes for society.

The appointment comes at a crucial time for the sector, as it steps up to the challenges of responding to the coronavirus pandemic and how to support and shape the recovery that will follow.

Mr Grimson joins KPMG from PwC where he spent the last fifteen years working with a range of leading public sector clients. Initially based in London, he moved to Glasgow in 2015 and has spent the last five years supporting clients in Scotland.

Mr Grimson said: “The last few weeks has highlighted the valuable work of our public services. The importance of getting services right has never been more critical, and underlines the need for them to have the right ways of working and tools at their disposal to help them deliver.

“I was attracted to KPMG because it’s developed a first-class reputation for its pioneering work with government at all levels and the opportunity to build further on the work we’ve done in Scotland. As we go through the current period of disruption, I’m looking forward to working with our clients and being their partner to help deliver change and drive improvement.”

Jenny Stewart, KPMG’s head of infrastructure, government and healthcare in Scotland, added: “We are delighted to welcome David to the team, as we continue to grow and develop our strong public sector consulting practice in Scotland.

“His breadth of experience and detailed knowledge–particularly in the field of delivering large scale change, including end to end digital transformation -will be extremely useful to our clients.

“The public sector has been able to make a huge shift in a matter of weeks in the way it delivers front line services. It is already thinking through the medium and long term implications for service provision as we move to recover from the crisis.”

She added: “Our public bodies in Scotland are ambitious to contribute to Scotland’s success and to be world leading in digital public services. With David playing a key leadership role, our Infrastructure, Government and Healthcare business is in a better position than ever to support our clients to make this happen.”
