Accountancy and business advisory firm, Johnston Carmichael, was been named as Insolvency Team of the Year at the 2015 Scottish Accountancy and Finance Awards last night.

It is the first time that the firm has picked up the accolade, which was won last year by BDO.

The winners were announced at a black-tie awards ceremony which took place at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.

The Insolvency Team of the Year award was presented to JC which successfully assisted companies in distress and produced the best possible outcomes in the circumstances.

Matt Henderson, head of restructuring at Johnston Carmichael, said: “The whole team is delighted to have been presented with this award, which most importantly recognises their hard work and the tireless efforts placed into getting the best outcome for businesses going through structural change.”

Johnston Carmichael’s Restructuring Team has made significant developments in the last year, including a rebrand from Business Recovery & Insolvency Services to Restructuring to reflect the changing landscape within the insolvency sector.

The judges made special mention of Johnston Carmichael’s innovative approach in promoting the solvent winding up of contracting companies and the development of the www.contractormvl.co.uk website.

The team was also involved in high-profile work over the last 12 months, including the assignment to wind up the company that delivered the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, and initiating a deal which rescued a Scottish care service provider, which secured the jobs of 60 people and care service provision for 100 elderly/ disabled users.

Mr Henderson continued: “The last 12 months have been a time of development and growth for the Johnston Carmichael Restructuring Team, and we have adapted to remain relevant to the changing market within the insolvency sector to ensure we continue to offer the highest quality service. This award acknowledges this evolution, and is sure to boost this momentum within our talented team.”

The awards recognise individuals and teams within the accountancy sector, who often remain behind the scenes but play an important role in ensuring the effectiveness of both private and public sector organisations.
