After 44 years, John Langlands will be retiring as a partner of EQ Accountants at the close of business on 30 September 2021.

From beginning his journey with EQ founding firm JLM as a trainee in 1977 to working his way to becoming partner in 1997, Mr Langlands has seen the firm evolve over time and has been instrumental in its growth and development.

EQ Accountants said that Mr Langlands has always been valued by clients and colleagues for his wealth of knowledge, particularly in relation to Tax and his ability to deliver the most beneficial solution to any complex matter. His career has seen him work with a varied portfolio of business, charity, and personal tax clients.

He also specialised in supporting healthcare professionals including many GP practices. Within EQ, he took responsibility for the Amber Accounting team, which provides outsourcing solutions for businesses in the areas of payroll, bookkeeping, VAT and management accounts.

John Langlands said: “Over the last 44 years, I’ve seen EQ implement growth strategies that have resulted in long term business success and increased profitability. Even in the last 18 months which have brought significant change for everyone, it was fantastic to see how well the firm and staff responded to the unique challenges and provided exceptional support to our clients. Although I am sad to leave, EQ is in safe hands and it will continue to provide the highest quality service to clients and be a tremendous environment to train and develop the next generation of accounting professionals.

“I am proud to have been part of a great firm for as long as I have and because I loved the work and shared my career with many talented people, it’s been 44 years well spent. I’d like to thank all of my clients and colleagues; you have been a pleasure to work with and I wish you all the best for the future.”

David Cameron, managing partner, added: “John will be missed both personally and professionally. His commitment to the firm and his clients, and mentoring our staff, is second to none. I would like to extend my thanks for his contribution over the last four decades and we all wish him and his wife Carol a very long and happy retirement”.

“Following John’s retirement, clients will continue to receive the highest level of support and advice, delivered primarily through our experienced Dundee team, many of whom have worked alongside John for many years. In April 2021, we combined our Cupar and Dundee offices which further strengthened the team and we’ve been actively recruiting new talent across the firm to ensure we maintain our strength in depth.”
