Gilson Gray Financial Management (GGFM) LLP, the investment arm of law firm Gilson Gray, has appointed Steve Herkes as its new managing director, continuing the firm’s string of 2021 hires.

Spearheading GGFM’s ambitious growth strategy, Mr Herkes will be responsible for the strategic direction of the business, including securing new business opportunities. He will also be directly involved in recruitment, as well as leading future merger and acquisition activity.

Mr Herkes joins GGFM from St. James’s Place where, as head of business and regional manager, he led its financial planning approach. He will work alongside current GGFM managing partner, Alastair Lindsay, who will direct his focus to client matters and into developing a niche private client offering further adding to the GGFM service range.

Glen Gilson, group chairman and managing partner at Gilson Gray, commented: “Steve’s unrivalled knowledge and expertise will greatly assist our ambitious expansion plans and overall business development. He is an expert in building teams, supporting businesses and generating the best outcome for clients. I have no doubt that both he and Alastair will together be able to create an even more formidable financial organisation which will become one of the largest investment businesses in Scotland.”

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Herkes said: “It is a great privilege to work with Gilson Gray and be able to contribute towards the firm’s ambitious plans over the coming years. Having already worked closely with the team over the last year, I hope to build on the firm’s success in planning for continued sustainable growth, by identifying new talent and capitalising on key market opportunities.”

In addition to Herkes’ appointment, GGFM has also recently appointed four new financial advisors. Louise Brotherston, Nathan McDonald, Rebecca Baird and Greg Davie have each joined GGFM in recent months. With expertise ranging from financial wellness to pensions for private and corporate clients, each individual will bring unique insights and experiences to extend the firm’s reach and client base.

Glen Gilson added: “We have made great progress in creating and growing a world-class finance team in the last few years, and so we are also delighted to also be welcoming a further four talented financial advisors to the team who each bring significant experience which will enhance our offering to clients.”
