The funding boost from RBS assisted the purchase of eight machines from China, the majority of which will be used at the Scottish premises. Empteezy is one of the first manufacturers in Scotland to produce disposable face masks and it expects to deliver up to one million items per week.

Founded in 1986, Empteezy has grown its operations significantly and now has sites in France, Spain, Belgium, Italy and Germany.

Bruce Wishart, founder and managing director, said: “It has undoubtedly been a very challenging period for the manufacturing sector, but we feel fortunate that we have been able to continue business growth and expand our market offering in response to the global demand for PPE kit.

“We have made careful considerations to ensure that the Schoeller branded face masks we produce are in-line with regulations for use in medical settings as we plan to distribute the masks to NHS suppliers, as well as sell to the general public and wholesale retailers.

“Excellent communication, trusted advice and fast service from the team at Royal Bank of Scotland enabled the expansion, which we hope will help reduce the spread of coronavirus.”

The new production line has also created eight new jobs at the Livingston site in Scotland, with Bruce expecting up to 40 new roles becoming available in the months ahead as demand increases.

David McIntosh, relationship director at RBS, added: “It has been rewarding to support Empteezy as it diversifies its business and helps provide vital equipment for the public, both in Scotland and overseas. We wish the team the best of luck in the future.”
