Dundee accountant swaps finance for eco-friendly retail venture

A chartered accountant in Dundee is swapping the world of finance for sustainability as she opens a new shop next week, The Courier reports.

Debbie Gallacher has handed in her notice at a large finance firm as she embarks on the new venture, which will trade as Love Your Planet Broughty Ferry and will use reclaimed materials wherever possible.

The shop is using local suppliers to reduce its carbon footprint for transporting stock and will sell coffee beans from Arbroath and soap and shampoo from Kirriemuir, as well as rapeseed oil from Crieff.

It will also feature more than 60 gravity dispensers so customers can purchase items including flour, rice and pulses in their preferred quantities.

Ms Gallacher said: “There is a growing demand for this kind of shopping experience.

“It appeals to a broad spectrum of customers, from those whose primary focus is the environment, to people who enjoy shopping in a slower-paced, friendlier way.

“Customers are also more interested in where their food comes from and how it was produced.”
