Founder Harry MacLean, a native of Dundee, recently launched the company to fill a gap in the regional supply of business support for SMEs and larger scale operations in a marketplace previously facilitated by local banks and their advisors.

The management company will focus on four main areas: culture, structure, strategy and finance.

Mr MacLean has had a lengthy career in business in the UK and Europe, starting within the retail business as a buyer and manager with Sainsbury’s and Asda before playing a key role in developing the Sports Direct brand in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

More locally known for being the chief executive of Dundee Football Club, he played a key role in ensuring the survival of the cub, helping steer the Dark Blues through administration.

He has since held positions as supply chain and business improvement director with Aberdeen-based Global Integrated Services and laterally Dutch-based oil and gas supply chain company Hendrik Veder Group as their group managing director.

He has also held a number of key advisor roles, including with the new McGill team during the high-profile company purchase in 2019.

Graeme Carling, CEO of United Capital, said: “In early 2019 I acquired McGill, a Scottish construction company that, after 38 years in business, had entered administration.

“Harry of Carrick Management supported our board of directors and the wider team in re-establishing the business. Harry’s experience and expert opinion were invaluable and instrumental in the rapid growth of the company.”

Mr MacLean said: “After working throughout the UK and Europe for the last decade, what is clear is that we have a very strong business community right here on our doorsteps in the North East, and I wanted to launch a consultancy that would help to instil more confidence in those business owners and decision makers and to help them grow.

“Our company motto is to create better outcomes; and we really mean that. We want to work with businesses to help them become the best supplier their customers have ever had, and to go after bigger and more lucrative contracts based on their high-quality service.”
