Capital Credit Union has scooped the top prize in a prestigious UK-wide consumer awards scheme.

The Edinburgh-based organisation was voted Best Credit Union (North) in the Consumer Credit Awards run by independent review group, Smart Money People.

The awards are decided solely on customer feedback.

Marlene Shiels, Capital’s chief executive, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to win this award as this is not decided by a judging panel, but based entirely on the positive feedback from our members.

“We always strive to meet their needs and to help them as best we can and our efforts, particularly during the pandemic, have been rewarded. We developed a Covid Wellbeing Package specifically to address issues they have been facing in the last 18 months and this has gone down very well with our members. We are very grateful to them for voting for us and for providing such positive feedback about us.”

Since the inception of the awards scheme in 2017 almost 100,000 people have helped to decide the winners in the various categories.

Capital was also a finalist in this year’s Customer Service Champions category.
