BrewDog breaks crowdfunding world record as funds hit £10m

Equity for PunksAberdeenshire-based BrewDog has raised over £10 million through its Equity for Punks IV scheme, breaking a world record for the highest amount raised through equity crowdfunding.

The highest amount previously raised through equity crowdfunding was $6 million, according to MarketWatch.

Brewdog, which is headquartered in Ellon, said 35,000 individuals have now signed up to its E4P’s scheme.

BrewDog recently partnered with crowdfunding wesbite, CrowdCube to launch the BrewDog Bond offering 6.5 per cent interest p.a. over four years.

The brewer will continue to use the funds raised to invest back into the business, including the development of an eco-friendly brewery at Ellon, new facilities at its US site in Columbus, Ohio and the continued expansion of its portfolio of bars.

BrewDog recently opened in Brighton and has openings in Aberdeen, Dalston and Soho planned.

BrewDog also runs a scheme, where if 200 people invest from the same town and there isn’t a BrewDog bar there, a new one will open with the next 12 months of reaching the target.

Writing on the BrewDog blog, co-founder James Watt, wrote: “As other craft breweries capitulate and hand their businesses to industrial brewing conglomerates, we will continue to invite the people who drink our beer to own a part of BrewDog, and involve them in the running of our company.

“This world record for equity crowdfunding is a marker in the sand for beer fans, amidst so many recent black marks for the craft brewing industry.
