And finally…Teen’s name change by deed poll cheaper than Ryan Air admin charge

Deed PollA teenager travelling to Ibiza with budget airline Ryanair has avoided a £220 administrative fee by changing his name by deed poll.

Adam Armstrong was planning a holiday with his girlfriend but her stepfather booked the 19-year-old’s ticket and accidentally gave the name Adam West.

The cost for amending the mistake – which was made because Adam had changed his Facebook name to that of a Batman actor – would have been £220.

But by changing his name by deed poll to Adam West for free he was able to instead buy a new passport for £103, avoiding the huge airline costs.

“Her stepdad got my name from Facebook but I had put it as Adam West as a joke, because he was the actor who played Batman on TV,” Adam told The Sun newspaper.

Ryanair said there would be a £110 charge for amending the name, but because his girlfriend was on the same booking, the administration fee would have had to be paid twice.

The airline claims the costs are so high to prevent people buying cheap flights then selling them on for a profit.
