And finally…some hae meat…but no a four grand haggis!

Wee Rabbie Burns famously said: “Some hae meat and canna eat, and some wad eat that want it”.

But, as the country, together with Burns lovers the world over, gear up to celebrate the famous poet’s birthday on Monday night, some might need a bank loan to enjoy the creation of one Scots butcher who says he has produced the world’s most expensive haggis.

Macsween butcher shop in Edinburgh says it has compiled the most extravagant collection of ingredients ever put into the famous dish - including edible gold - to create a haggis with a £4000 price tag.

The business says that the made-to-order , one-of-a-kind dish contains Wagyu beef, from a farm where all the cows have names, French white truffle, tellicherry black pepper from India which can only be grown at over 2,000ft above sea level; and a decorative sprinkle of edible 24-karat gold.

The 4kg haggis also comes presented in a handmade wooden cask.

Managing director James Macsween, said: “At Macsween we’re passionate about offering all of our customers only the best high-quality, delicious products made to the family recipe.

“This latest creation demonstrates the dedication and craft that goes into every single one of our products. Good haggis making is an art and we wanted to highlight this.”

Although most people won’t likely be able to shell out the necessary cost for the luxury haggis, Macsween assured that the shop also offers other quality products at more affordable prices.

“Don’t worry if your budget doesn’t stretch to £4000 this year,” he said. Our diverse range of quality, versatile, award-winning products offer something for everyone. Haggis is a delicious dish which can be enjoyed by the family all year round.”

Despite the flood of publicity brought by the pricey creation, Mcsween’s chefs say they are still waiting for their first commission.
