And finally…MasterCard ready to launch “selfie pay”

Mastercard SelfieAfter a successful pilot program, MasterCard says it is ready to roll out its “selfie pay” security checks by the summer.

Mastercard’s Identity Check app works by authenticating a payment on your phone by simply holding your device up to your face.

However, the payments giant says there are a number of safeguards in place so it is not fooled by a picture or video.

For example, users will need to blink to convince the software you are a real live human, which MasterCard claims its algorithms are good enough to know.

Beyond facial recognition, MasterCard is apparently looking at other possible biometric options - including heartbeat recognition.

Everything will take place inside MasterCard’s Identity Check app, which is designed to streamline the verification process of mobile payments.

More than 14 countries will get “selfie pay” this summer, with a wider rollout likely to follow.
