And finally… Sister Act

A group of activist nuns is buying stock in gun companies in an effort to compel manufacturers to detail how often their products are used in mass shootings.

Sister Judy Byron, of the Northwest Coalition for Responsible Investment, based in Seattle, told CTC News: “The only group that isn’t involved in the issue are the gun manufacturers.

“When we have a tragedy, everyone says something – even the NRA – but not the gun manufacturers.”

“The gun violence in the U.S. is both a human rights and a health issue,” she added.

The coalition had a recent success when shareholders made gunmaker Ruger report on mass shootings linked to its weapons.

And Sister Byron said that filing shreholders’ resolutions with Dick’s Sporting Goods established a dialogue between the nuns and the retailer and resulted in an announcement it would: stop selling assault-style rifles and high-capacity magazines; raise its minimum purchase age to 21 and hire lobbyists to exert pressure on politicians for stricter gun control laws.
