And finally...Patisserie Valerie supplier took baseball bats to head office over late payments

An out-of-pocket supplier to beleaguered cafe chain Patisserie Valerie turned up its head offices with baseball bats to pursue late payments, the Daily Mail has reported.

The supplier, who is not named in the reports, took the bizarre action after being forced to wait for long periods for remittance, even before the £40 million black hole in the company’s accounts was uncovered in October.

The claims emerged as MPs on the Commons Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee began to probe Patisserie Valerie’s payment practices.

It has since emerged that Patisserie Valerie believes the massive shortfall in its books was the result of fraud.

Wholesalers such as Brakes and Booker have refused to supply Patisserie Valerie after it failed to settle its credit bill with them.

A spokesman said: “The new management team is working through these issues as a priority.”
