A woman has spoken of her shock after realising she paid property tax on a plastic box in her back garden for nine years.
Jeannie Martin, who lives in Duxbury, Massachusetts, USA, bought the small container for $50 in 2000 and placed it behind her house.
The box is just about big enough to hold a lawnmower, camping gear, a pram and windshield washer fluid.
However, the plastic box was listed in her tax records as a 30 square foot shed assessed for $300.
Ms Martin told WBZ-TV: “I did not know there was an itemized list. I just paid my taxes like a good citizen.”
She added: “The fault is on me but I also think this is a big mistake.”
