And finally… ‘hud that plane!’

While the threat of missing a flight is an everyday hazard for holidaymakers and business travellers alike, one Italian man has been arrested after calling in a bomb threat to a major airport, just to keep his flight grounded until he got there.

The unnamed 46-year-old’s flight was minutes from take-off when he decided to phone emergency number 112 and claim he “heard two Arabs say that they had put a bomb on board”.

His flight was subsequently grounded, but the bungling hoaxer never managed to get aboard after he was arrested for raising a false alarm.

Instead, he spent the night with police.

The flight was ultimately delayed by two and a half hours.

In addition to his prosecution, the transport ministry has advised the nameless passenger that he could be blacklisted from future flights.
