And finally… heavy duty

A dance student is seeking £500,000 in damages after she suffered debilitating neck and shoulder injuries obtained allegedly from being made to lift a heavier partner.

And finally... heavy duty

On Monday, Charlotte Vanweersch told a court that she had sustained career-damaging injuries while practising a “throwing and lifting” routine at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds.

Ms Vanweersch claimed that she had not been taught how to perform the lift safely when it involved a “significantly” heavier partner, who was also a woman.

She said that her teachers should have paired her with a dancer “of a more comparable or adequate size”, The Times reports.

The school has denied responsibility for the injuries obtained and told the court that Ms Vanweersh had chosen her dance partner on the day of the lesson back in 2015. The school said that she was also “given appropriate instruction” by school staff.

According to Ms Vanweersch, the lift damaged her spine and her left shoulder. She is said to have lasting pain and restricted movement, which has severely affected her ability to dance and even to do heavy housework.

No date has been set for the claim to be heard.
