And finally…business faces name change as Trump factor hits trade

Trump Turnberry Golf Resort

A business in South Ayrshire that has become so concerned about the negative impact of US President Donald Trump’s nearby golf resort is having on its trade that it may be forced to change its name.

Turnberry Holiday Park says it has canvassed the opinions of more than 1,000 people and found 32 per cent were less likely to visit it due to its name being similar to that of the Trump Turnberry course.

Bridge Leisure Parks chief executive Andrew Howe said: “We’re canvassing opinion – there’s no doubt there’s a negative element because of the Donald Trump factor.

“We did a bit of a survey where we asked people if it put them off and there was definitely a considerable element saying it had.

“It’s a competitive marketplace – we’re worrying about doing anything which might put people off.

“It’s just a worry.”

He added a decision was likely to be reached within the next couple of weeks.

Trump, who bought the nearby luxury Turnberry golf resort in 2014 and visited there in 2016 after it had a £200 million refurbishment, resigned as director of it in January 2017 after becoming US president, as did his daughter Ivanka.

His sons Eric and Donald Junior remain in their positions.
