And finally… Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao launches his own cryptocurrency
Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao has launched his very own cryptocurrency at a free concert in Manila.
On Sunday the 1st of September, the Philippine boxer serenaded over 2,000 fans with popular love song covers and songs from his own album which has sold several thousand copies, to muster interest in the product.
His “Pac” tokens will allow fans to purchase his merchandise and interact with him on social media.
The “Pac” token will be listed on Singapore’s Global Crypto Offering Exchange (GCOX). The token counts Pacquiao and ex-Liverpool and England soccer star Michael Owen as private investors, along with Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed al-Nahyan, a member of Abu Dhabi’s ruling family.
The token is the world’s very first celebrity cryptocurrency. Other celebrities such as tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, Michael Owen and singer Jason Derulo also plan to launch their own crypto tokens with GCOX.
GCOX Founder and CEO Jeffrey Lin, told Reuters: “We are not here to raise a lot of money but to build an ecosystem.”
Aaron Baetiong, who attended the show, said: “Pacquiao is idolised by many. People will be encouraged to check this innovation.”
