The officers were finishing their shift and driving back from Tourcoing to nearby Roubaix, both near the border with Belgium, at the time.

According to France Bleu, one of the officers used her Taser on the driver, causing him to crash into a parked vehicle. They then fled the scene.

Emmanuel Riglaire, lawyer for the officer who used the Taser, said she “did not imagine that [the lowest setting] would cause such a reaction”.

All three officers are facing trial next February and an internal investigation has also been opened.
