And finally…’Alexa, what’s the value of my pension?’

And finally...'Alexa, what's the value of my pension?’

Aviva has launched an application for Amazon’s Alexa which allows UK customers to find out how much they have in their pension pots.

Customers registered on MyAviva can link the skill to their Alexa account and then verbally request the voice assistant to tell them how much they have saved for their retirement.

Aviva said it had made the innovative move following its own survey of more than 2000 Brits which shows that pension engagement needs a boost.

A third of respondents say they check their pension balance annually while one in five (21 per cent) say it is less often than that. In contrast, 1 in 20 check their balance on a daily basis.

When asked what would make them more engaged in pension saving, the second most popular answer (33 per cent) was to have easier ways to access their balance such as a mobile app.

Blair Turnbull, MD, UK and international, digital, Aviva, said: “The new Aviva skill transforms the way people can connect with their pension, allowing them to effortlessly find out their latest pension value from the comfort of their home.

“Increasing people’s interest in pension saving will only happen if we make it easy for them to check on their progress. The Aviva Alexa skill and our MyAviva app can really help people take control of their retirement planning.”
