And finally… a vicious cycle

A cyclist from New Zealand needed the help of a rescue helicopter after he and five friends were cycling the length of the country to raise money for rescue helicopters.

And finally... a vicious cycle

Rob Meadows from Whangārei and his friends were raising funds for Northland Emergency Services Trust when he went over the handlebars of his bike after his front wheel hit a pothole in Pureora Forest Park near Taupō.

His accident caused him to break his collar bone and ribs meaning he needed the assistance of Taupō Greenlea Rescue helicopter to get to a hospital.

Mr Measdows said that his accident proved the value of New Zealand’s rescue helicopters.

He said: “You never know when you are going to need a rescue chopper service - be that in Northland or, as I found out, anywhere else around the country!”

His friends carried on to Bluff, managing to raise a total of $5651 through the Givealittle crowdfunding site, Stuff reports.

Mr Meadows added: “The rest of my team completed the trip in 23 days and on behalf of them all I want to thank everyone who donated – thank you.”

He hopes to take part in the next event in 2022, again raising money for the Northland service.
