And finally… a royal treat

Marie-Antoinette’s travel bag has been sold for €43,750 at an auction in France.

And finally... a royal treat

The bag, owned by the former Queen of France was sold for over its estimated price of between €8,000 and €10,000 at the ‘Royalty at Versailles’ auction held by Osenat, Tatler reports.

The bag was made from wood and lined with leather. The description of the piece read: “The interior has been refurbished, but an older lining remains, made of unbleached canvas, presenting in the lid an oval-shaped nailing that held a piece of skin that probably had to be marked with initials or coat of arms.”

Another notable lot was a large serviette that once belonged to the queen, with Royal Fleurs de Lys insignia, leaf crowns and a bouquet of roses that, although expected to make €2,000 - €3,000, actually went for €14,500.
