The four-figure sum has been given to I CAN, the children’s communication’s charity, and will help parents who are concerned about their child’s communication development get advice.

Each year more than 1200 parents call the charity’s Enquiry Service to speak to a Speech and Language Therapist about their child’s SLCN.

As part of the service, parents are able to access online resources which help their child’s communication development. Alongside this, parents will be signposted to other services that will give extra support.

Daniel Nicholls, corporate partnerships manager for I CAN, said: “1.4 million children in the UK have speech, language and communication needs, for many of them getting the right help early can mean that it won’t have a long-term impact.  We are delighted to receive this funding from Aberdeen Standard Investments Charitable Foundation as it will mean we can continue to offer this free service to parents worried about their child.”

Claire Drummond, head of charitable giving for Aberdeen Standard Investments, said: “This charity helps open up communications between children and their parents. providing information and guidance, free of charge. Much of a child’s formative development starts at home and one of the strengths of I CAN is helping to support communication between children and their parents by providing the right support.”

The Aberdeen Standard Investments Charitable Foundation was established in 2012 to formalise and develop the Group’s charitable giving globally.
