Aberdeen Standard Capital strengthens charity team with two new appointments

Ben Turner

Aberdeen Standard Capital (ASC) has enhanced its charity team appointing Miranda Richards and Ben Turner as senior charities portfolio managers.

In their new roles, the two will be responsible for the management of discretionary portfolios on behalf of UK charities and foundations.

Both will report to Laurence Gagen, head of charities, and will work closely with the existing charity team based across ASC’s six offices.

Ms Richards has over 30 years investment experience and joins from UBS where she was a charity-focused client advisor and led the London team. Prior to a career break, she was a fund manager at Henderson and oversaw the management of a $1bn Global Smaller Companies Fund. Outside of her professional duties, Ms Richards is an experienced charity trustee and currently chairs the investment committee of a London based educational foundation.

Mr Turner also joins from UBS where we was senior client advisor for charity and not-for-profit clients, specialising in sustainable and impact investing. Prior to UBS, Mr Turner held a similar role with Barclays Private Bank. He has been investing for charities for over ten years.

Richard Charnock, CEO of Aberdeen Standard Capital, said: “Charities, endowments and foundations are a very important part of our business and I’m delighted to expand the charities team. Ben and Miranda have a tremendous amount of experience within the charity sector and will make a real difference to our reach in this market.”

Miranda Richards added: “I’m delighted to be joining a growing business that has a proven track record of investment excellence and genuine leadership in investing responsibly. The transparency and credibility of the investment process is impressive. In 2020 and beyond, it has to be about more than ethical screening - it’s about using your shareholder voice to bring about a better future for all.”

Ben Turner said: “What has struck me most is the commitment to charity clients. Charities are core to the business and I am excited to join a great team that has a 20 year track record in investing responsibly for charities. Charities are currently seeking to navigate the economic challenges ahead while tackling the global sustainability issues. At Aberdeen Standard Capital, clients don’t have to choose between investing for a strong return and investing for a sustainable future.”
